6. Textured Rugs and Natural Flooring

Flooring plays a major role in rustic farmhouse design. Wooden floors are the most common choice. Light to medium wood tones work best. If wood flooring is not available, laminate or vinyl options with wood textures can be used.

Rugs add comfort and help define seating areas. Natural fiber rugs made from jute, cotton, or wool are ideal. Choose neutral or simple patterned rugs that do not overpower the room.

Preparation includes choosing the right rug size. It should be large enough to fit under the main furniture pieces. Layering rugs is also popular in farmhouse design. For example, place a smaller patterned rug on top of a larger neutral one.
